2024 U. S. Poker Open Starts Monday

The highly anticipated 2024 U.S. Poker Open kicked off not too long ago, cementing its status as a premier event in the world of tournament poker. In just a short span, the U.S. Poker Open has emerged as the flagship tournament of the esteemed “High Roller” circuit.

The “High Roller” circuit specializes in attracting the elite players of the poker world who compete for the prestigious “Golden Eagle” trophy, awarded to the Overall Champion of the series.  Now in its sixth year, the 2024 edition of the tournament features a lineup of eight exciting events that promise thrilling action and fierce competition.

What is in store during the 2024 U.S. Poker Open?

The tournament action kicks off with a thrilling $5000 No Limit Hold’em event, commencing at noon (Pacific Time) on Monday at the renowned PokerGO Studios situated within the ARIA Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. Each participant will start with a stack of 125,000 chips, and the tournament will feature brisk thirty-minute levels.

The relatively short level of time is attributed to the implementation of a “shot clock,” which adds an element of excitement and urgency to the gameplay. During preflop action, players will have a mere twenty seconds to make their decisions, while post-flop decisions must be made within thirty seconds, keeping the pace of the game dynamic and engaging.

While starting with a hefty stack of 125,000 chips may seem like players have room to spare, the competitive nature of “High Roller” events often sees participants aggressively pursuing every advantage, no matter how marginal. As a result, some players may find themselves burning through their initial stack more quickly than anticipated.

However, the tournament structure allows for flexibility, with players permitted to rebuy up to two times in an attempt to rebuild their chip count. With each buy-in costing $5000, players have the opportunity to invest up to $15,000 in total throughout the course of the tournament, should they choose to maximize their chances of success.

For those who find a $5000 buy-in a bit steep, the subsequent events in the schedule may prove even more daunting for their bankrolls. Events #2 through #5 all feature buy-ins of $10,000, mirroring the rules and rebuy options of the opening tournament. Stepping up the stakes further, Events #6 and #7 require a $15,000 investment.

The climax of the tournament series arrives with Event #8, the prestigious $25,000 Championship Event. Alongside this high-stakes showdown, the coveted Golden Eagle trophy will be awarded to the Overall Champion of the U.S. Poker Open, marking the pinnacle of achievement in the world of tournament poker.

In its first year in 2018, the U.S. Poker Open witnessed a display of dominance by Stephen Chidwick from the United Kingdom. Throughout the series of eight events, Chidwick showcased his prowess by cashing in five tournaments, all of which culminated in final table appearances. Among these, Chidwick clinched two titles, amassed over $1.2 million in earnings, and ultimately claimed the coveted inaugural championship title.

The following year, in 2019, David Peters emerged as a standout figure as the U.S. Poker Open solidified its status as a premier destination for high rollers. Despite securing victory in only one tournament out of the ten scheduled, Peters left an indelible mark by winning the Championship Event. His exceptional performance, coupled with two other final table appearances during the event, propelled him to clinch the prestigious Overall Title.

In 2020, the poker world faced unprecedented challenges, leading to a hiatus often referred to as poker’s “lost year.” However, in 2021, David Peters made a triumphant return to achieve a remarkable feat – a repeat victory. Peters secured victories in three out of the twelve tournaments scheduled, edging out competitors like Sean Winter to claim back-to-back titles as the U.S. Poker Open champion.

Sean Winter, who clinched the 2021 U.S. Poker Open Championship Event, bounced back in 2022 to seize the Championship Event once again, seizing the coveted Golden Eagle in the process.

In 2023, Martin Zamani emerged victorious in the Championship Event against Nick Petrangelo, securing the Overall Championship title by surpassing Ren Lin. Despite winning only one event in the series, Zamani’s triumph in the Championship Event propelled him to the top spot for the 2023 U.S. Poker Open.

With anticipation building, all eyes are now on Las Vegas for the 2024 U.S. Poker Open. Over the next weeks, the thrilling action will unfold at the PokerGO streaming outlet, offering viewers a front-row seat to every hand dealt and every strategic move made, all with a thirty-minute delay.

The first 2024 U.S. Poker Open Title already awarded

Jesse Lonis has surged ahead in the 2024 U.S. Poker Open leaderboard by clinching the championship title in Event #2: $10,100 No-Limit Hold’em. The event, which saw 99 entrants including re-entries, amassed a staggering $990,000 prize pool, with Lonis claiming a hefty portion of $252,450.

Alongside the prestigious title, Lonis also walked away with a substantial cash prize and a trove of PGT leaderboard points. Adding to the excitement, Lonis was presented with an impressive eagle-themed trophy reminiscent of the coveted Eagle Cup trophy awarded at Global Poker events.

This victory marks Lonis’ third triumph on the PokerGO Tour (PGT) circuit, further solidifying his prowess in the poker arena. Earlier in 2024, Lonis secured two notable victories. On March 13, he emerged victorious in a $10,500 No-Limit Hold’em High Roller event at Wynn Las Vegas, pocketing $193,140 in winnings.

Following this success, Lonis continued his winning streak by conquering a $320 No-Limit Hold’em WSOP Super Circuit Online event, claiming his second WSOPC ring along with $23,170 in prize money.

With a string of victories under his belt, Lonis has established himself as a formidable contender in the world of professional poker. Lonis walked away with his second WSOP bracelet last year after winning the $50,000 Pot-Limit Omaha High Roller, which ultimately delivered a career-best of $2,303,017.
